About the Speakers

Steve Csonka, Executive Director, Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI)
Steve is a commercial aviation professional with 35+ years of broad airline, OEM, and fuels experience. Steve's strong technical background, which spans the breadth of the commercial aircraft/engine life-cycle, from design through operations, has led to engagements in business development and in long-term strategic planning for the aviation enterprise. Such work has focused on the nexus of future product requirements, technology progression, and industry value propositions, including aspects of policy, advocacy, regulatory affairs, and environmental impact. Steve is a strong industry advocate who seeks pragmatic solutions to the challenges of aviation sustainability—resulting in his current focus on alternative fuels.

Lauren Riley, Managing Director, Global Environment Affairs & Sustainability, United Airlines.
Lauren is responsible for leading United’s efforts in environmental compliance, waste, water and energy management, sustainable aviation fuel, and overall environmental sustainability strategy. These initiatives are designed to support United’s goal of achieving a 50% reduction of carbon emissions by 2050.

Lauren is a business leader focused on the relationship between innovation and environmental sustainability. With 20 years consulting experience, Lauren has led a variety of initiatives addressing business and digital transformation, strategic planning, and change management that yield environmental and operational benefit.

Nancy Young, Vice President, Environmental Affairs, Airlines for America (A4A)An environmental attorney, Nancy directs the A4A environmental sustainability programs, represents the A4A airlines in international negotiations regarding aircraft noise and emissions standards, and provides counsel on other environmental issues of significance. She serves on the steering group and as environmental co-lead of the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) and the Advisory Committee of the Aviation Sustainability Center (ASCENT). In addition, she participates in the working groups under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection and serves on the Board of the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG). In 2015, Ms. Young was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to serve on his High-Level Advisory Group for Sustainable Transport.
